About Us
The Project
Our Story
The National Emergency Medical Services for Children established several performance measures in order to improve the overall readiness and delivery of care to the pediatric population.
EMSC Performance Measure 02 specifically is set to establish a Pediatric Emergency Care Coordinator to facilitate pediatric care in an EMS agency with a goal that 90% of EMS agencies nationally have established a PECC by 2026.
In September 2018 Pennsylvania was one of nine states awarded a grant to participate in a learning collaborative that will demonstrate effective, replicable strategies to increase the number of local emergency medical services (EMS) agencies with a PECC. A 2017 EMSC survey had identified agency responses to a question regarding the presence of or plan to add a pediatric coordinator, now known as a PECC.
Part of the Pennsylvania Grant application work plan was to establish a website that will act as a portal for agency PECC’s and offer educational and other PECC related information to that group. This work was designed to be developed through a collaborative Steering Committee made up of representatives from within the state and across the EMS provider and administrator community.

Philosophy & Mission
Our projects philosophy is support agency level PECC activities and allow agency decision-making to identify and implement PECC programs that ‘fit’ their individual needs and capabilities. The PECC project will develop the necessary building blocks for EMS agency use in effecting the goal of establishing and maintaining a Pediatric Emergency Care Coordinator.
Our mission is “To build, implement, and support resources assuring pediatric prepared and confident Emergency Medical Services providers deliver the highest quality care to the pediatric population in Pennsylvania”

How We Help
The PECC project is comprised of a central steering committee dedicated to supporting the needs of EMS agencies in establishing a PECC. Supplemental to the steering committee are pediatric partners who provide subject matter experts and work collaboratively within teams to develop the building block resources specific to PECC related objectives. As the PECC project grows throughout the state, we will draw from the successes and lessons learned of our PECC partners in supporting ongoing maintenance of our PECC teams as well as assisting new PECC’s in establishing their own programs.
